RELEASED!

Soulcaster II has passed through the gauntlet of peer reviewers and arrived to the sanctuary of the XBOX Live Marketplace!

Not much more to say right now, except check out the demo!

Tremendous thanks go out to everyone who’s supported me through this review and release process. My close friends can now sleep safe knowing I won’t hound them to do a 2-hour playthrough on a random Tuesday night.

  1. Yay! I bought it without even trying the demo. About a third of the way through on Normal, and loving it so far. You outdid yourself with the shopkeeper’s music this time around. 😀

    Thanks for another great game.

  2. Just went and bought it, plan on playing later tonight. Have to agree with GhaleonEB about the shopkeeper track. I want to buy that one and just set it to repeat that song all night. XD

  3. Been playing it the last couple days.

The music is incredible. Any chance the soundtrack will be released as MP3s?

  4. Great to finally get a chance to play this game as it was a highly anticipated title for me. I love the subtle changes to the graphics that breath new life into what appears to be pretty much the same engine. Here’s hoping plenty of people pick this gem up.

  5. I bought the game as soon as I got home, and it’s great (the music is, too)! Thanks again for releasing another awesome game 🙂

PS. Your Contact form doesn’t appear to work on the site.

  6. Just finished the game last night. What happens on level 30 is AWESOME, but I won’t spoil it for anyone else 🙂

One gripe I had with both games though is that the only time I would ever use scrolls of ruin is on the last level because I wouldn’t get cash from enemies killed by the scroll.

What I think I would prefer would be to have a few spells on hand that use scrolls but aren’t as effective and still give money for kills. You have several unused buttons on the controller you know 🙂

Another thing that would be neat is if you added a “Very Hard” mode designed to be played as a New Game+ where you can keep your upgrades. Throw in some additional upgrades like faster walk speed, more potion slots, or new spells and the replay value could be increased a bit.

I just think it would be neat to play through the game again with the levels redesigned for upgraded guardians.

Anyways, all ideas for SCIII 🙂

Great game, can’t wait to play through it again on hard (though it got pretty damn tough by the end of the normal).

  7. @Derek–Great suggestions, all of them.

The scrolls were designed to be a last-ditch lifesaving item, though maybe it is a bit harsh to take gold rewards out. I mainly wanted to prevent players from just fighting with scrolls start to finish.

Stuff like more spells, more game modes, different upgrades–these were all considerations for SCII which I just didn’t have time to fully test, and are definitely candidates for SCIII.

I tested an Ultra Hard mode where the player loses life whenever a summon is killed. As you can guess, it was too hard.

  8. Haha, that sounds brutal.

I understand the purpose of the scrolls being a last ditch effort, but whenever I’m forced to use a scroll I feel like I’m just hurting myself in the long run because I’m missing out on all that gold and it’s not like I can go back to old levels.

You don’t even want to know how many times I tried to “beat” the Path of Temperance (swarming rat level) in an attempt to get more gold. Needless to say, I had to give up 🙂

  9. … until I looked at these comments I didn’t even realize scrolls cost me money. When I’m using them, I’m usually in my OMG OMG DIE DIE DIE ACK! mode, and I’m not looking at my money.

    Good to know.

By the way, I haven’t gotten far in it yet, but I’m already enjoying it. I’m already feeling like I’m going to need to come back through later and try to do better; your methods of encouraging the player to leave but giving them the OPTION to try to stand and fight work well.
